Churches

According to Eph. 4:11-12, evangelists are to come along side pastors to assist them in equipping the saints for the work of the ministry:

“And He gave some {as} apostles, and some {as} prophets, and some {as} evangelists, and some {as} pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ”.

Here is what Charles Spurgeon had to say to future pastors on the subject of  bringing in an evangelist to preach at the local church:

“To call in another brother every now and then to take the lead in evangelistic services will be found very wise and useful for there are some fish that never will be taken in your net, but will surely fall to the lot of another fisherman. Fresh voices penetrate where the accustomed sound has lost effect, and they tend also to beget a deeper interest in those already attentive. Sound and prudent evangelists may lend help even to the most efficient pastor, and gather in fruit which he is unable  to reach; at any rate it makes continuity in ordinary services, and renders them less likely to become monotonous. Never suffer jealousy to hinder you in this. Procure the services of some imminent soul-winner, …and this may in God’s hands bring you brighter days.”

Church Growth

I served on staff with a mega-church that grew from 100 to 3,000 in 10 years. One of the things we did on a regular basis was to bring in GREAT guest speakers.  Spurgeon was right, it helps to break up ordinary services and creates a sense of excitement and anticipation in the congregation. Church was never meant to be boring.

Here is what the Director of Chapel at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois had to say after hearing Phil speak in chapel,

“In an era of fadism and fashionable substitutes for true scriptural principles, the ministry of Phil DelRe is a ray of hope for the church. Phil has tapped into the mode of true Gospel evangelism that has proved so mighty in the past. For anyone desirous of seeing the type of deep and thorough heart work that so characterized the Church in better days, Phil should not only be heard but studied.”

And this from Pastor Rodney,

I invited Phil DelRe to our church to challenge our hearts in personal evangelism. That is exactly what we received. Phil was well received by all groups in our church. Young and old were blessed. His passion and experience translated into a powerful challenge to our souls!
